Layers
Most labels consist of layers and the higher the quality the more layers it has. Some labels have up to six layers and is always rounded of by a top layer in the case of thermal transfer labels, to provide excellent printability with an appropriate resin or wax/resin ribbon.
When protection of printed surfaces are required, labels can be varnished or over-laminated.
Adhesives
The adhesive is one of the most technically important components of the label. Whether your labels are required to stick for long periods of time, are exposed to demanding conditions or need to be easily removed, there is a solution for every application.
Substrates
Labels are manufactured for different substrates like steel, stainless steel, galvanised steel, aluminium, different plastics like HDPE, LDPE, ABS, polypropylene, nylon, polycarbonate and polyurethane, and then also glass, paints and rubber.
Water resistance
Water resistance is overcome by using a plastic-like material such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polyolefin and polyester. PVC and vinyl labels are also water resistant.
Heat resistance / UV resistance / Service temperature
There are labels and adhesives available that can handle freezer conditions and then labels that can handle temperatures up to 150°C outdoors in the sun.
Chemical resistance
Examples of chemicals that some labels are manufactured and tested for are brake fluid, engin oil, diesel, dishwashing liquid and bleach.
Shelf life
Most labels have a shelf life of at least one year, however, in practice it has been shown that some labels can be stored for many years.
Colours
Many basic colours are available, but clients can also choose a more specific colour from the pantone colour chart.
Dies
A variety of die sizes are available but in case your preferred size is not available a die can be manufactured on request for your own account.
Label tags
Label tags are used in sectors for applications where a label cannot be adhered to a surface or a product.
Pre-printed labels
We can offer pre-printed labels to specification, whether it is repetitive label prints or sequentially numbered labels.
